- As of October 2008 the South Carolina Educator Certification Manual has been updated.
- Changes for adding middle level certification have been approved and the new requirements are listed in the certification manual. If you would like to receive an evaluation for adding middle level course-by-course, please mail or fax a copy of the Request for Change/Action form to the Office of Educator Certification.
- The grandfathering provision for adding certification in middle level will expire July 1, 2009. All requests for adding middle level certification using the grandfathering procedures must be submitted using the required verification form.
- The Office of Educator Certification now recognizes the national certificate in school psychologist (NCSP) issued through the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) for certification purposes in South Carolina. The requirements for the NCSP parallel certification requirements in South Carolina, which include the completion of a state-approved training program based on the standards of the NASP, and a score of 660 on the Praxis examination in School Psychology.
- If you have an expired license, no changes can be made to your license and the Office of Educator Certification cannot provide you with a copy of an expired license. A letter of verification will be provided upon written request.
- As of November 1, 2008, all certification applicants must have their fingerprints processed through Integrated Biometric Technology (IBT), a state-approved vendor. Fingerprint cards are no longer submitted to the Office of Educator Certification. Out-of-state applicants submit fingerprints to IBT by mail. Fingerprints for in-state applicants are captured by IBT using a live scan process and submitted electronically to SLED and the FBI. The resulting reports are sent to the Office of Educator Certification. Click here for IBT fingerprint instructions.
